Memes and Art

What is a meme?  An element of a culture or system of behavior that may be considered to be passed from one individual to another by non-genetic means, especially imitation.  A humorous image, video, piece of text, etc., that is copied (often with slight variations) and spread rapidly by Internet users.

 

Microaggression

  • Implicit Association Test: The implicit-association test (IAT) is a measure within social psychology designed to detect the strength of a person's automatic association between mental representations of objects (concepts) in memory.
  • Howard Ross Unconscious Bias: Howard Ross presents on the importance of recognizing and managing unconscious bias in order to mitigate unwanted consequences in the workplace / market place and to bring about a new paradigm to how we approach diversity and inclusion.
  • Understanding Unconscious Bias: This animation introduces the key concepts of unconscious bias. It forms part of the Royal Society’s efforts to ensure that all those who serve on Royal Society selection and appointment panels are aware of differences in how candidates may present themselves, how to recognize bias in yourself and others, how to recognize inappropriate advocacy or unreasoned judgement. Racial and Social Justice

  • Allegories on Race and Racism by Camara Jones: This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Dr. Camara Jones shares four allegories on “race” and racism. She hopes that these "telling stories" empower you to do something different, and that you will remember them and pass them on.
