María Magdalena (Malena) Hernández

María Magdalena (Malena) Hernández oversees the Santa Rosa Intercultural Center. Previously, she oversaw SRJC's Multicultural Innovation Center for Academic Success and Achievement, as MI CASA Coordinator since 2015. Before joining SRJC, Malena worked in various educational settings, including pre-school, high school, and 4-year universities. Malena has a master of arts in Chicano Studies with an emphasis in Comparative Ethnic Studies and Education from San José State. Her bachelor's degree is in Anthropology and Spanish from Saint Mary's College of California. Malena maintains strong cultural and familial ties to her homeland in central Mexico and is proud to be a 1st generation college student, immigrant, Spanish speaker, previously undocumented, English learner, a mother, and being a Xicana, among many other significant identities and experiences.

 

María Magdalena (Malena) Hernández está encargada del Centro Intercultural de Santa Rosa. Previamente, estaba encargada del centro MI CASA (por sus insignes en inglés) desde el 2015. Antes de trabajar en el colegio de Santa Rosa, Malena trabajó en distintas instituciones educativas, tal como el preescolar, preparatoria, y universidades de 4 años. Malena obtuvo una maestría en Estudios Chicanos, con un enfoque en estudios étnicos comparativos, y la educación de la universidad San José State. También obtuvo un bachillerato en Antropología y español de la universidad Saint Mary's College of California. Malena mantiene lazos culturales y familiares a su tierra natal en el centro de México y está orgullosa de ser estudiante de primera generación, inmigrante, Hispanohablante, previamente indocumentada, aprendiza de inglés, una madre, y ser Xicana, entre otras identidades y experiencias significantes.
